Meet the impactiive® Team: Ed Greenwood

Senior Banker,

Mr. Greenwood brings nearly 20 years of extensive hands-on experience in challenging markets driving sustainable growth, leading multi-cultural teams, and building financial inclusion.  A seasoned professional with success in establishing and leading institutions from inception to fruition and from losing ventures into profitable enterprises.

Mr. Greenwood joined FINCA, a global microfinance network, in 2000 and served as CEO of 7 FINCA subsidiaries and continues to serve on the Board of Directors for a FINCA Microfinance Bank in Africa playing an active role in governance, and strategic oversight.  Amongst other achievements, he turned around business performance, re-established fiscal discipline, and re-invigorated staff morale after significant financial losses in two different subsidiaries.  He spearheaded strategic initiatives focused on helping FINCA transition into a digital financial landscape, resulting in the development and implementation of agent and mobile banking solutions for two FINCA subsidiaries which have become the network standard. Also, under his leadership, he directly mentored and coached three Africans promoted to CEO.

While CEO of FINCA Microfinance Bank in Tanzania, his notable achievements were reducing staff attrition to just under 20% from 40% through targeted team building and transparency on performance expectations. Mr. Greenwood delivered sustained bottom-line profitability in just 2 years from $2M in losses through strengthening fiscal management policies, employee fraud prevention strategies, and focusing on customer service. He also spearheaded the transition into a digital financial landscape by launching agency and mobile banking channels that lowered transaction and client acquisition costs by 30%.

While CEO of FINCA Microfinance Bank in DRCongo, he grew the deposit base by 50%, pioneered FINCA’s first agent network, led a go-to-market strategy that resulted in 50% of all bank transactions going through the agent platform within 1.5 years, and led the FINCA Africa region with 6 of the top 10 most profitable branches out of 100+ branches in 5 countries.

After a long career with FINCA, Mr. Greenwood returned to the United States to take care of his elderly parents. While home he worked as the Economic Empowerment Manager for the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants, a statewide agency assisting new refugees and immigrants to overcome legal, economic, and social barriers.  In that role he re-engineered content and delivery of financial literacy education, and developed performance metrics to drive workforce readiness and placement strategies. His led efforts resulted in 100% of employable adults being employed vs. the prior average of 50%. He was also responsible for identifying lending partners and launching innovative loan products; thus, enabling clients to build their credit history and launch small businesses.

Currently, Mr. Greenwood is the Strategic Partnerships Manager with Communitas America building an impact ecosystem in the Bronx, NYC.  He is responsible for building key relationships and identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships and developing strategies for raising revenue in support of underserved Bronx entrepreneurs.

Mr. Greenwood holds an MBA and BS degrees from Fairfield University (USA) and is a Graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier School of Banking. He is passionate about empowering people economically and pushing the frontiers of financial inclusion.
